If you asked what my favorite thing about traveling was, I would without hesitation say it’s trying the local restaurants. So, after a year of closings and travel restrictions, I am excited that the restaurant industry is beginning to pick up. Innovative concepts are starting to merge, and already stablished restaurants are re-inventing themselves, right on time for our trip to the mile high city. From fun brunch places to romantic spots, here’s a list of four restaurants to visit in Denver right now.
Denver is a town that loves brunch, so it's only logical that we stopped at Urban Egg, a popular spot serving brunch – every day of the week. This family-owned restaurant started as a Mexican concept until its owners noticed the locals' interest in locally sourced boozy breakfast. So, they ditched the tacos and brought in the mimosas.
After greeting the host, we noticed two XL jars filled with pineapple chuncks and liquid, their signature pineapple-infused vodka. This is the not-so-secret ingredient of the famous Maui Maui mimosa. Their cinnamon swirl pancakes won the title of best in Colorado by Readers Digest. It's no gimmick. They are amazing. And if you came extremely hungry, order the steak and eggs. We finished with a bourbon latte topped with a dash of Cayenne pepper.
This, by far, was the favorite meal of our Denver trip. The cherry on top? The restaurant sources as many local ingredients as possible, keeping the money in their local economy and making the food taste fresh.
If you love mediterranean food, then you have to stop by Mazevo. This is a great spot for a romantic quiet dinner.
We started off with the Mazevo platter, a sampler of their spreads. Every item on the plate was excellent, but the labneh was especially good. If you sit at the bar ask for Ace, who makes the most beautiful and delicious cocktails. He will tell you stories about Nepal and the excursions he organizes on his time off. Don’t forget to grab a baklava for dessert, so authentic that the restaurant outsources it from a Syrian woman.
Mazevo opened its door shortly after the pandemic and it's doing a great job at making a name for itself. I give Mazevo all the stars. Come here for the great food, craft cocktails and to enjoy the gorgeous interior. Save some time to explore the area after dinner because Mazevo is located in the coolest little neighborhood.
We had the best time at My Neighbor Felix. Think about this place as an "elevated" Mexican concept with craft cocktails and chic decor. The ambiance is hip but not pretentious. The atmosphere is fun without being too loud. This is not the type of place where you settle for tacos and chips. To get the most of the experience, order something fancy. We ordered the Salmon Veracruz and the Skirt steak and they both were to die for. The drinks were perfect. Felix is for sure the coolest of the neighbors. If you are in the Denver area, this is a must-stop.
With locations in Ballpark, Centennial, Colorado Springs, and Littleton the View House is a local's favorite. We visited the Centennial and Colorado Springs locations and they both consistently delivered lively vibes, great views and delicious food. Come here for the rooftop party, the brunch and the indoor and outdoor activities. The View house can get busy so don't forget to make reservations ahead of time. This is a great spot to grab a bite, sip a drink, play a game of cornhole and people watch.
